Six months into development and northerngroup's Ice Plant scheme is progressing rapidly. The unique scheme which will bring 82 apartments and 5 commercial units to the heart of Ancoats is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2010.

Main contractors were appointed in May and works have now concluded on construction of the basement which will house car parking spaces for 79 cars. With the steelwork package due to start at the beginning of December, the building should begin to make a visual inpact on the Ancoats skyline by christmas.

The iconic Ice Plant building has a rich heritage and used to play a pivotal role in supplying ice to the local industries around Ancoats in the 19th century, including the renowned Italian ice cream barrow businesses.  It is now being given a new lease of life and will play a significant role in the regeneration of Ancoats.

The Ice Plant scheme encompasses the original Ice Plant facade in addition to a further three new build blocks which will fuse alongside.  An innovative atrium space will serve to provide gallery access to apartments as well as allow considerable natural light into the space below.

All apartments offer open plan spacious contemporary style accommodation with an extremely high specification.  Kitchens are sleek and modern and include a full range of integrated appliances.  Bathrooms are luxurious with designer sanitaryware complemented by large format tiling.  The scheme will also include a number of duplex penthouse apartments with premium kitchens and bathrooms with walk in shower and sauna.
